Drains
If you have a drain in the road outside your house, please adopt it and clear it out if you see that it is full of leaves and débris. Blocked drains can contribute to flooding in some parts of the village, so you will be helping to keep the residents of Gaydon dry. Thank you for your co-operation.
Changes to the Mobile Library
From February 2014 onwards, the Library Van will no longer visit the Telephone Box and St Marks Close. Instead, it will stop at the Village Shop on designated Mondays from 1.30-2pm, starting on Monday 17 February.
The van is called Romeo and comes from Kenilworth; this is Route L. If you have any enquiries, phone 01926 851031 or go on-line at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries

Gaydon Report: The village has had a quiet month. Ian Miller
You do not have to be a member of the church to make a contribution to your local Food Bank. All villagers are welcome to pop into St Giles' with some food for the Box, which is straight in front of you as you enter, close to the organ. If you are not sure what sort of food would be most suitable, have a look at the suggested shopping lists on one of the leaflets beside the box.
When it is full, Gaydon's box is taken to Kineton Church where the food is distributed under the auspices of the Trussel Trust.
The total amount Gaydon village raised this year was £1,230.47 and I would like to thank all those who bought a poppy, enamel pin, wrist-band or sticker. I particularly wish to thank the volunteers who willingly took the poppies around Gaydon - this Appeal could not be done without you. The Malt Shovel, the Village Shop, the Esso Garage and the Motor Heritage Centre have been very supportive of this charity and were prepared to have boxes on their premises: without them the total amount would have not been so generous. So a BIG thank you to all of you - from Pam Furnivall.
The Library will be here on Thursdays 9th and 30th January. The van will be at the Telephone Box at 1.50-2.10pm and at St Marks Close from 2.15-2.35pm.
The meeting this month will be on Tuesday 21st at 2.30pm at the home of Mrs Gay Talbot, Dormers, Church Road.
On the afternoon of Monday, 23rd December, the day of the big storm, I checked the new ditch at the back of Kineton Road and found it to be flowing freely. However, the 8" pipe which takes the water into the 18" storm sewer and out of Gaydon, was partially blocked with débris. This pipe is inaccessible and needs to be extended into a place where it can be serviced. The Parish Council will be getting quotations for this work in the spring.
Later, on Monday night, Church Road was half-covered in water which was running from that partially blocked pipe and through gardens, into the Kineton Road. I discovered a blocked gulley in Kineton Road and two in Church Road. I cleared the leaves and mud out of the drain covers and within ten minutes the Church Road water had disappeared. Thanks to the new ditch and dyke, no water entered the gardens of Niton or Trevose; hence the sewage did not overflow in Church Road and there was no flooding in Gaydon at Christmas in 2013. JR
Boxes will be collected this month; or box-holders may bring them to me at the Old Bakehouse, if they prefer. If you are interested in having a box to collect in throughout the year, please ring me on 640349. Julie Rickman
To all who knew my husband Gordon Kemp:
It is with deep sadness I have to tell you that he passed away on Friday 20 December. I would like to thank very much all those who have offered their support and kindness at this sad time. Angela Kemp
I would like to thank everyone who helped run the Christmas Lunch this year, making it such a jolly occasion. Julie Rickman
Messy Church will be at Fenny Compton on Sunday 12 January at 3.30pm in the village hall.
